From Signe Baumane, director of Rocks in My Pockets, comes a new award-winning animated feature about a spirited young woman determined to find love in the bewildering world. My Love Affair With Marriage follows Zelma on her 23-year quest for perfect love and lasting marriage set against a backdrop of historic events in Eastern Europe.
Told from a woman’s point of view, the film blends historical, biological, societal, and emotional arcs with a lively sense of humor and musical numbers. This animated film for adults tackles the issues of love, gender norms, domestic violence, fantasies and toxic relationships to propel a woman’s journey toward independence and liberation.
My Love Affair With Marriage premiered at Tribeca Festival in June 2022 and went on to screen at over 100 film festivals around the world winning 23 awards. The film is available in a number of European countries and has been released in North America through 8 Above. Director Signe Baumane is making a 25-city tour around the U. The Embassy arranged an online discussion with Film Director Signe Baumane and the curator of the International contemporary art project “Maiden Tower: To be a woman” Sabina Shikhlinskaya, film artist Inna Kostina and film critic Ulvi Mehti as a continuation of the screening of Signe Baumane’s animated film “My Love Affairs with Marriage” in Baku on December 6 on gender-based violence, selective abortions, early marriages and much more that affects gender equality which is an important issue on NATO’s agenda.
